Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
EFT is a form of emotional acupuncture without the use of needles and is based on the belief that all negative emotions are the result of a disruption in the body’s energy system. It belongs to a group of therapies that are known as Energy Psychology, which have developed from the ancient Chinese Meridian System.
EFT can be used for:

How does it work?
EFT works by clearing the blockage or disruption in the body’s energy system by tapping on the end points of certain meridians. While you tap you focus on a specific issue by using a special affirmation and carry out a few actions which stimulate activity of specific areas of the brain. This sends pulses of energy to rebalance the body’s energy system in relation to that specific issue. This not only gets rid of unwanted negative emotions or physical reactions, it gives you control over your own thoughts and the choice to live a life without limiting beliefs.
How quickly does it work?
EFT can give you very rapid results but this varies from person to person and depends on how complex the issue is and how willing the person is to let the problem go. Testing is carried out throughout a session to check if an energy shift has occurred. There are lots of ways this is done but the main method of testing is using a basic 0-10 scale to measure emotional intensity or physical pain.
Will I have to relive painful events?
No, the emphasis is not on reliving the painful memory or trauma but on resolving issues quickly and painlessly. There are lots of gentle techniques that are used during a session to make dealing with even the most difficult life events as pain free as possible.
Will the results last?
The results are usually permanent if the core issue has been addressed. If problems appear again it is normally because an unseen aspect that was not dealt with has emerged. However it is unlikely that this will happen due to the rigorous testing process that happen during an EFT sessions.
EFT Treatment
Before your session begins you will be asked to fill out a consultation form, to ensure EFT is the most appropriate therapy for you and to get your consent to treatment. If you have any questions after reading this you can ask me before the session begins or email me if you prefer. Your first session will normally last longer at least (1.5 hours). After that session’s are normally booked in (1 hour) slots but if you want a longer session, this can be booked when you make your appointment.
EFT & Limiting Beliefs
Are your beliefs limiting your lifestyle?
A limiting belief is something that limits your life and prevents you from fulfilling your true potential. It’s usually something that you've been told by friends, families, partners etc. For example; “you are... fat, ugly, useless". When you believe these negative comments, you reinforce these limiting beliefs by telling yourself “I am... fat, ugly, useless".
Limiting beliefs that come from childhood can have a very negative impact on adult life. For example; if a child was constantly told they were “unloved, worthless, stupid”. It would be surprising if that child developed any self-esteem as an adult, or was able to form loving relationships.
Basically, limiting beliefs are the conclusions you have come to believe about yourself, other people and life based on the sum of ALL YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCES. These limiting beliefs limit your own thoughts, behaviours, actions and choices in anything in your life at this present moment. These beliefs hold you back, if you believe that you're not going to succeed, you won’t even try! EFT can help eliminate these beliefs.
EFT Treatment
During an EFT session we use a simple limiting beliefs sheet, as a tool to help identify your negative beliefs. You will be asked to fill out the limiting beliefs sheet when you come for a session. This exercise is done quickly so you answer with your ‘emotional brain’ not your logical one. This way we get a more accurate example of what you think on a subconscious level.
We will normally choose one limiting belief to focus on for your session depending on how the session develops. Once we know what your limiting beliefs are we can work out what caused you to have this belief in the first place, what are the consequences of holding this belief, how this belief makes you behave and feel and what would be a better belief to have instead! By using a variety of different EFT techniques we are then able to find out what your core issues are and use EFT to heal them and your limiting beliefs.
